Wilbur J. Dempsey, of Milltown, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro. He was 92. Born in Jacquet River, New Brunswick, Canada, he came to the United States in 1948. He resided in Newton, Newark, and Edison before moving to Milltown 45 years ago.
Will was a guidance counsellor at Sampson G. Smith School in Franklin Township for over 20 years, retiring in 1988. He received his Master's degree in guidance from Seton Hall University in 1966.
Devoted to his Catholic faith, Will was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Milltown. He was a former Grand Knight, founding member, and 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 7250.
He loved gardening and nature. He led an active life, playing tennis in his younger days and swimming into his 90s. He loved traveling and vacationed each summer back home in Jacquet River, Canada. He especially loved meeting and talking to new people throughout his journey in life.
He's predeceased by his wife Frances (Pinda) Dempsey (d. 2008), and eight brothers and sisters.
Surviving is his son James Dempsey of San Jose, California; his daughter Ann F. Dempsey of Robbinsville; his brother Bernard "Bunny" Dempsey of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada; and his sisters Joan Sanborn of Arcata, California, Lourdes Copp of Ottowa, Ontario, Canada, and Lois Rioux of Orange, California.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Milltown. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Friends and relatives may call on Saturday, March 31st, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.
