Dr. Sushmita Mikkilineni, of Warren, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, NJ. She was 62. Born in Ranchi, India, she came to the United States in 1981. She resided in Summit, Edison, and Somerset before moving to Warren, NJ 24 years ago. Dr. Mikkilineni was board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology, Sleep Medicine, and Critical Care.
She graduated from Lady Harding Medical College in New Delhi, India. She completed her pediatric residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. From 1991-2005 she served as a faculty member in the Department of Pediatrics at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School as a pulmonologist, critical care specialist, and sleep specialist. Subsequently, the past 12 years she has been the medical director of the Pulmonology Department at Newark Beth Israel Hospital.
She loved hosting parties, cooking and gardening, and taking care of her family and dog. She enjoyed traveling and the beach.
Surviving is her husband Dhananjaya (Rao) Mikkilineni; her parents Sanjoy Kumar and Manjistha (Biswas) Bose of Warren; her children Nisha of Boulder, CO, Nina of New York City, and Nikhil of Warren; and her sister Sudeshna Bose of Fremont, CA.
A Pooja service will take place on Friday, September 8th, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call on Thursday, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St. at Riva Avenue, Milltown.
