Susan M. Gumenik

Susan M. Gumenik, formerly of Somerset, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024 at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg VA. She was 71. Born in Brooklyn NY, she lived in Somerset NJ most of her life, before moving to Virginia in December 2022.

Susan was a dedicated teacher, loved and admired by students, colleagues, and the community. She taught middle school English for 36 years, 3 in Baltimore and 33 in Metuchen. She was elected Edgar School Teacher of the Year in 2003 and served as an Advisor to the Edgar School student council. Susan developed a reading curriculum for middle school students, and served as President of the Middlesex County Reading Association, and as an Officer of the NJ State Reading Association. She also served as an Officer of the Metuchen Teachers Association and Chairman of the Metuchen Teacher's Bargaining Unit.

She’s predeceased by her parents Joseph and Sadie (Golosoff) Gumenik.

Surviving are her brothers Norman Gumenik of Chandler AZ and Arthur Gumenik of Bridgewater VA, her nephew Jeffrey, and her niece Michele.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 20th, 10:30 am, at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge Center Dr. & Rt. ! North, Woodbridge, NJ.
