Silver D. Dawson, age 98, of East Brunswick, NJ passed away peacefully at home with his daughters at his side, on October 22, 2024. Silver was a kind and generous spirit, salt of the earth.
Silver is predeceased by Betty, his beloved wife of 66 years.
Loving father to Carol Kesely (Ken) of Milltown, NJ, Barbara of Milltown, NJ and Sue (Tess Miller) of Prince Edward Island, Canada. He is predeceased by devoted son Ken (Linda). Cherished Pop Pop to Katie Kesely, Abbie Kesely (Matt Bickerton), Suzie Karabinchak (Bill), Kenney Kesely (Nina), Maggie Kesely, and John Kesely. Great Grandfather to Kyan Kesely (Katie); Evelyn, Penelope and Oliver Kesely (Kenney and Nina); Elizabeth, Maxwell, and Lenora Bickerton (Abbie and Matt); and Benjamin Silver and Cooper Karabinchak (Suzie and Bill). He is predeceased by his brother Carroll and sister Rachel Brook (John), and is survived by nephew John Brook Jr (Janice) and niece Sharon Davis. Isabel was his devoted caregiver in his final years.
Silver was born in rural Virginia. After high school he served in the Army as World War 2 ended, and then moved to New Jersey after leaving the service. He worked for Johnson and Johnson as a machinist for 44 years, and applied his work skills for fixing things to any and all home projects. He met Betty after moving to New Jersey. They married in 1953, and he carried their wedding photo in his wallet for the rest of his life. In their later years they enjoyed tending their gardens, going to Atlantic City, reading the newspaper, and watching Jeopardy.
Family was at the core of Silver’s life, and he was surrounded by family gathered at his house to mark every birthday and holiday throughout the years.
Friends and Relatives may call on Saturday, October 26th from 11:00am to 2:00pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N. Main St- at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Funeral service will take place during visitation at 1:30pm.
