Richard Van Voorhees, of Somerset, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at St. Peter's Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 79. Born in New Brunswick, he grew up in Milltown and moved to Somerset 43 years ago.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army. He was a New Brunswick High School graduate. He received his BS from Rutgers University and his accounting degree from Rider College. He retired as an accountant for Chickapee, a division of Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick.
An Eagle Scout, he loved the outdoors and was very active with Boy Scouts Troop #113 in Somerset. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Milltown and most recently the United Methodist Church at New Brunswick. He also enjoyed being a member of the Milltown Boys.
He's predeceased by his parents Donald and Marguerite (Henry) Voorhees.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Claire (Wolff) Voorhees; his son and daughter-in-law Bradley and Ginger Voorhees of Somerset; his brother Dana A. Voorhees of Memphis, TN; and his beloved grandson Hunter Benjamin Voorhees.
Services and burial at Van Liew Cemetery are private. Funeral arrangements are by The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.
