Richard F. Simons

Richard F. Simons, of East Brunswick, passed away March 22, 2021, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 83.


Richard grew up in Jersey City until finishing high school in 1955 and then moved to East Brunswick. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1956 to 1960. After his military service Richard moved to East Brunswick, where he lived, worked, married and raised his family.

He worked in banking and auto financing for a many years. Additionally he sold garage doors on weekends until just recently, Many customers were returned to him for additional jobs and there were lots of referrals. Additionally he served in the Army National Guard Reserve for 16 years, retiring in 1997.

Finally he delivered cars for Greenbrook GMC, driving to places like Houston, Nashville, up-state NY and Boston as well as many other local places. Anyone who knew him understood that he loved to drive, preferably in his Corvette.

Richard loved to build model airplanes and cars. During the holidays he would set up miniature Christmas villages and also loved lighting the cherry tree in the front yard and he loved having the Christmas tree up as long as possible. Some of his favorite places to go were Wildwood NJ for summer vacations, car shows or any scenic destination with the Corvette club. You could also find him on the golf course quite often. Hanging out on the deck in his back yard, cooking on the grill and sharing a hard lemonade from time to time on a hot day with family and friends was also a favorite pastime.

He's predeceased by his wife Jo-Ann Simons (d. 2019), his parents Walter and Evelyn Simons, and his sister Marybeth.

Surviving are his children, Jonathan and his wife Erin Simons and his grandchildren Landon and Frankie of Toms River, Scott Simons of Fresno CA, and Susan Simons of East Brunswick; his brother Arthur Simons, and his wife Ann Marie, of Milltown, and his sisters Nancy Steel of Shark River, and Ruth Ann Slater, and her husband Bill of Pompton Plains.

Friends and relatives may call on Friday March 26th, from 4:00-7:00pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N. Main St. - at Riva Ave in Milltown. A Blessing will be held during the visitation at 5:00 pm. A private burial will be held on Monday March 29th at Brig General William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Park in Wrightstown NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org . Also Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. https://giving.mskcc.org/
