Raymond E. Geipel, of Milltown, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023 at home. He was 91. Born and raised in Spotswood, he enlisted into the United States Army during the Korean War, and was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airbourne. Ray and his wife Joan moved to Milltown 69 years ago.
He worked for the Milltown Borough Utilities Department for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He also was shop steward for the OPEIU Local 32 Union.
Ray was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Milltown. He was a founding member of the Rangers Athletic Club in Milltown and a member of the American Legion Post 25 in Milltown. He was a beloved coach of the Rangers Football team and Little League Baseball. He loved fishing and enjoyed raising Boxer dogs. Most of all Ray was very devoted to his grandchildren.
He's predeceased by his parents Harry and Ada (Farmer) Geipel, and his brother Robert and Richard Geipel.
Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Joan N. (Szumski) Geipel; his sons and daughter-in-laws Raymond E. Geipel Jr. (Karen) of Milltown and Carl F. Geipel (Dawn) of Winston-Salem, NC; his eleven grandchildren Eric Geipel, Kim Gebhardt, Kelly Kenney, Tracie Davis, Nathan Geipel, Amber Sandstorm, Tara Davis, Tanya Geipel, Monica Geipel, Nicholas Geipel and Hope Geipel; and ten great grandchildren Tyler, Carter, Hunter, Desiree, Zoey, London, Jazz, Ian, Abby and Anya.
Friends and relatives may call on Monday, April 3rd, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, 1:00 pm at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Milltown Rescue Squad, POB 308, Milltown, NJ 08850 or Milltown PBA Local 338, POB 312, Milltown, NJ 08850.
