Raymond J. Buck, of Lauderdale-by-the Sea Fl., passed away Friday, September 6, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 91. Born and raised in Edison, he and his late wife Esther raised their family in Highland Park. He enjoyed spending summers at his home in Seaside Park, NJ.
Ray led a remarkable life, distinguished by his long and successful career as a heavy civil contractor. He initially was in the excavating business with his late brother John as Buck Brothers, Inc. Then Hardroads Inc. of which he was President, performed contracts such as the 30 mile widening of the Atlantic City Expressway, many NJ DOT, NJ Turnpike, Port Authority of NJNY and Del DOT projects.
He served in the US Army and was a parishioner of the Reformed Church of Highland Park. Ray was past commodore of the Seaside Park Yacht Club. He was a lifetime member of the Highland Park Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the American Legion Post 142 in Florida, Moose Lodge in Edison, and the Italian American Club in Edison.
Ray enjoyed boating and skiing. He was very proud to say that he skied with all of his children and grandchildren.
He’s predeceased by his beloved wife Esther (Burger) Buck (d. 2011); his parents Bernard Standish Buck and Margaret Marie (Cornell) Buck; and his brothers Richard, John, Leonard, and Robert and his sisters Bernadine and Ellen.
Surviving are his daughters Linda Bloomfield of Seaside Park and Sharon Teahl of Highland Park; his sons Raymond Buck of Cranbury and the Honorable Thomas Buck of Milltown; his grandchildren Joseph (Kristine) Teahl, Richard (Elizabeth) Bloomfield, Jacquie Teahl, Caleb Vinch and Catie Buck; his great grandchildren Kennedy, Payton, Colin and Liam; his brother Bernard Buck of Edison; his sister-in-laws Joan and Dorothy Buck, Hilda Lewis and Gloria Collins; his many nieces and nephews and his companion Cheryl Kellner.
Friends and relatives may call on Wednesday, Sept 11, 2024 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, Sept 12, 2024 at 11:00 am the Reformed Church of Highland Park, 19 S 2nd Ave, Highland Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Reformed Church of Highland Park or the Auxiliary of RWJUH, POB 609, Milltown NJ 08850.
