Maxine Voorhees passed away on October 29, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born on January 5, 1937, she was raised in Franklin Township, New Jersey, and remained a woman deeply rooted in community, faith, and the quiet pleasures that bring richness to everyday life. A graduate of New Brunswick High School, Class of 1956, Maxene carried with her a lifelong love of learning and literature that would shape both her work and her friendships.
She began her library career at the New Brunswick Public Library and, after moving to Milltown, worked as a clerk/typist for the Milltown Public Library. Over the years, she became known as an avid reader who delighted in sharing book recommendations with patrons and friends alike. Her love of reading was not merely a pastime, but a way she connected with others and brightened their days. She retired from the Milltown Public Library in 1999, closing a chapter of devoted service that reflected her steady commitment and warm presence.
Maxine found joy in the things she loved best: reading, watching classic movies, and listening to big band era music. She was a classic movie fan whose appreciation for another era’s grace and storytelling mirrored something of her own character. She also gave generously of her time, volunteering at Elijah’s Promise alongside fellow church members. A communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milltown, she was a woman of deep faith, and that faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. Voorhees.
Maxine leaves behind a loving family who will remember her with affection and gratitude. She is survived by her daughter, Aleda Sadowski and her husband, Steven, of South River; her son, Kenneth Voorhees and his wife, Lovelyn, of Aiea, Hawaii; her grandsons, Michael Sadowski and his wife, Rachel, and Steven C. Sadowski and his wife Nicole. Her granddaughter Asia Decamp and her husband Tucker. Furthermore 6-great grandchildren and her brother, Michael Hulick of Old Bridge. In each of these family bonds lives the enduring legacy of her care, her faith, and the warmth she shared so naturally.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Crabiel Home For Funerals, 170 N. Main Street at Riva Avenue, Milltown, New Jersey.
