Marie A. Barbato, of North Brunswick, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Regency Care Center in Somerset. She was 88. Born in Hoboken, she lived in Old Bridge most of her life, before moving to North Brunswick several years ago.
Marie was an administrative assistant for Creighton School in Old Bridge, before retiring. Previously she was a secretary for the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a bookkeeper at a bank in Hoboken.
She and her late husband Mario, were active in NAMI and were democratic committee people in Old Bridge. Marie loved to read and listen to music from the 50's and was a big Frank Sinatra fan. Her biggest joy in life was cooking. She loved to cook for her family and all of her sons' friends. Anytime her sons and their friends would go to the shore for the weekend she would pack them a metal cooler full of her cooking. The boys called the cooler "Mrs. B's Deli." Marie loved to meet new people and tell her stories of growing up in Hoboken and her favorite place to be when she was young, the stoop at 806 Garden St. in Hoboken.
She's predeceased by her husband Mario G. Barbato, Sr. (d. 2016)
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Mario G. and Maria Barbato of North Brunswick, her son Michael Barbato of Virginia; and her two granddaughters Gabrielle and Caitlyn Barbato.
Friends and relatives may call on Friday, January 14th, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Blessing will be held on Saturday, 11:00 am, at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Frost Woods Memorial Park in East Brunswick.
