With profound sadness and cherished memories, we announce the passing of our beloved Marcia Angela Dianne Lalla, who peacefully departed this life at the age of 76 on Saturday, March 1, 2025. A proud daughter from St. Michael, Barbados, she lived a life of unwavering dedication to the Lord, deep rooted love for her family, and resilience as a trailblazer in the finance world, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be treasured.
Marcia Angela Dianne Lalla was born on September 3, 1948 in Pinder’s Gap, Howells Cross Road to the late Daphne Sheila Edey and the late Frank Elliot Edey joining her brothers Walter and Michael. In 1952, Marcia and her family moved to Two Mile Hill alongside her cousins, the Workman Family, who served as some of her closest loved ones. She remained committed to a lifelong journey to connect with her Heavenly Father and modeled devotion throughout all of her days. Marcia attended Belmont Girls School in Saint Michael, Barbados followed by St. Michael’s Secondary School. She was deputy head girl where she participated in netball and the track and field event of high jump. Marcia was a member of the Barbados Dance Theater where she performed contemporary, modern dance and studied fine art where she specialized in oil and watercolor paintings. Upon completing her schooling in Economics and Banking, Marcia worked at the Scotiabank in Black Rock and attended James Street Methodist Church. Marcia was a child of God, a matriarch of the family, a mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, friend, teacher and authentic person.
In 1968, Marcia moved to Brooklyn, New York to launch her career in Commercial Art. In her journey, opportunities presented themselves encouraging this renaissance woman to shift her focus into the finance industry in foreign exchange. For 45 years, Marcia was a pillar in the foreign exchange industry in New York City and Rochester, New York, where her intellect, grace, and diligence earned the respect of colleagues and clients globally. As a trailblazer in the industry, Marcia was the first Black Vice-President of Kodak, Vice-President of Treasury Sales as well as one of the first to work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. She was a woman of integrity, ambition, and warmth, whose presence illuminated every room she entered. Marcia was a student of the Bible which she read through multiple times as well as the Torah and Quran. Her ongoing commitment to building her knowledge and sharing the wisdom of the Gospel was her passion.
Above all, Marcia was the heart of her family and her vibrant life was a testimony to everyone she met. She was a selfless individual who always shared her faith, feverishly cared to improve the lives of others and believed deeply in the power of our God.
She was predeceased in death by her grandmother Althea Bailey, grandfather, Evan Bailey, mother, Daphne Sheila Edey, father, Frank Elliot Edey and brother Michael Alvin Edey. Marcia leaves her devoted husband of 51 beautiful years, Dave R. Lalla, building a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Together, they raised three remarkable children: two sons, David (Latasha), Adrian (Jessica), and one daughter, Gail, who were the pride and joy of her life. She also leaves her cherished siblings, Walter MacDonald Edey and her sister Sheron Edey; three precious grandchildren whom she adored beyond measure, Jordyn, Laurence and Sydney Lalla; her niece Malikia Rainer. Her love extended to a close-knit circle of cousins including the Workmans, Knights and Wellington families including a host of cousins, nieces, nephews. Her beloved friends who she loved as family including Margaret S., Jocelyn, Margaret C., Beverly, Roger Grant and all of whom were touched by her kindness and wisdom.
Throughout her illness, she put one step in front of the other, remained committed to her faith and always cared for others by giving of herself and her gifts to the world. Marcia was a woman of great faith and boundless compassion. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—cooking for her family, sharing stories of her time at Two Mile Hill, and embracing every moment with laughter and gratitude. Her strength, elegance, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the incredible life she lived and the countless lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us always. Rest in eternal peace, our dearest Marcia. Your love will forever remain in our hearts.
