Leonid Zakrewsky

Leonid (Len) Zakrewsky, of Franklin Township, passed away March 9 at home. He was 65. Born in New Brunswick, he lived in Milltown before moving to Franklin Township in 1980. Len received both a Bachelor's in Russian and a Master's in Business Administration from Rutgers University.

He loved his "gentleman's farm" in Franklin, where he raised cows, goats and chickens and entertained friends. His 4th of July parties were legendary. Len's job as a construction manager took him away from home for months at a time, and he returned with stories of experiences in Russia, China, South and Central America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and many locations throughout the United States. Len will be remembered by many around the world as the life of the party, and as a generous friend. Len was incredibly proud of his son Nik. He had plans for Nik to join him in his travels, and spoke often of his dream of a father-son deep sea fishing adventure.

Len is predeceased by his father Peter Zakrewsky (d. 1988).

Surviving is his mother Lydia (Rohowich) Zakrewsky of Milltown; his son Nikolai Zakrewsky of New Smyrna Beach, FL.; his sister Lydia Barbely (James) of Grovetown, GA; his brothers Peter Zakrewsky, Jr. of Milltown and Alex Zakrewsky (Heather Fenyk) of New Brunswick; nephews Eric and Allen Barbely, and nieces Natasha Schatzman and Maya Fenyk.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday March 16, 10:00 am, at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, 76 Whitehead Ave., South River. Burial will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in South River. Friends and relatives may call on Thursday March 15 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.
