Kenneth C. Dawson, of Whiting, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 31, 2023 at home.  He was 65.  Born in Plainfield, he was raised in East Brunswick and graduated from East Brunswick High School in 1976.  He and his wife moved to Whiting four years ago.

One of the highlights in Ken’s career was his role as Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve from 1976 – 1998 and was a Veteran of Desert Storm.

Ken connected with many different kinds of people in so many different ways. He knew people wherever he went and could talk to anyone. He worked as a carpenter with Local 1006 in Milltown before retiring. He was also a member of the Spotswood VFW Post 4589 and the Leatherneck Pipes and Drums. Ken volunteered as a fireman and past Chief of Brookview Fire Department in East Brunswick.

He enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles as well as sports and racing.  He was a fan of the NJ Devils, Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR drivers Rusty Wallace and Martin Truex Jr.

He is predeceased by his wife Linda (d. 2022) and his mother Elizabeth (Demarest) Dawson (d. 2019).

Surviving is his father Silver Dawson of East Brunswick, his sisters Carol Kesely (Ken) of Milltown, his twin Barbara Dawson of Milltown and Sue Dawson (Tess) of Prince Edward Island Canada; his nieces and nephews Kate, Abbie (Matt), Suzie (Billy), Kenney (Nina), Maggie and John; and his eight great nieces and nephews.

Ken was a trickster. He loved to make people laugh with a joke or by doing something outrageous (or both). We have so many stories to remember and to share.

Friends and relatives may call on Thursday, April 6th from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.  A Funeral service will take place during the visitation at 4:30 pm.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org or Toys for Tots, www.toysfortots.org/donate .
