Kathleen Virginia (Flynn) Hoffman, 94, of Milltown, entered into eternal life on September 24, 2018. She was born in Bayonne, NJ to the late Alice (Malloy) Flynn and Walter J. Flynn, former Superintendent of Weights and Measures. She was a resident of Morris Township for 48 years. She then became a resident of: The Club in East Brunswick, then Milltown, followed by Sunrise Assisted Living of East Brunswick, Fox Trail Memory Care of South River, and Parker McCarrick of Somerset. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Milltown.
Virginia graduated from Holy Family Academy in Bayonne. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Newark State Teachers College (Kean University). She taught in Garwood, Elizabeth, and Wharton. She then taught 30 years in Randolph Township, retiring in 1984 after a total of 36 years teaching. She was a proud member of the: National Education Association, New Jersey Education Association, Morris County Retired Educators Association, Morris Township Senior Association, National Association Retired Federal Employees, American Association Retired Persons, Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Rosary Society, and Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey. In 1976 she was selected as an Outstanding Leader in Elementary Education. She proudly taught hundreds of children how to read.
She is survived by her son Vincent E. Hoffman of Jersey City; daughter Adrienne J. Hamm and her husband Arthur of Milltown, her very beloved granddaughter Ashley M. Hamm and Ashley's fiancé Charles William Kaplan of Milltown; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings: Walter, Vincent, Alice, Charlie, Mary, Robert, and Marcella, her beloved husband of 43 years, Edward J. Hoffman (d. 1988), and daughter-in-law Kathleen (Cote) Hoffman.
Calling hours will be held at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 North Main Street – at Riva Avenue, Milltown, NJ 08850 on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 1st, 10:30 am at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Milltown. Entombment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover. Family and friends are all welcome. Thank you to all who have cared for Virginia over the past several years.
