Karen Morrison, aged 61, of Lakewood, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Ocean County Medical Center in Brick. Born in Jersey City, Karen resided in Spotswood, Helmetta, and Jackson before settling in Lakewood 17 years ago.
Karen, a devoted educator, was certified as a Teacher of the Handicapped for the Brick Township Board of Education. Her commitment to creating a positive and challenging environment was unwavering throughout her career. She prioritized communication, encouragement, and support in her teaching approach. Her goal was to equip her students not only with academic knowledge but also with life skills and vocational abilities, preparing them for independent living after high school graduation.
Karen found immense joy in her hobbies of cooking, baking, and reading. She was an enthusiastic collector of antiques and loved using her unique style to transform spaces through her interior decorating.
She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Joan (Nolan) Slockbower, her brother, John Slockbower, and her brother-in-law, Salvatore Baglieri.
She is survived by her son, Major William Tallman (USAF) and his wife, Stacey Tallman, of O’Fallon, IL; her daughter, Keri Lynn Tallman, of Jackson; her sister, Barbara Baglieri, of Pine Hill; her brothers, Thomas Slockbower and his wife, Loretta Slockbower, of Glen Burnie, MD, and Michael Slockbower and his wife Sharon of Kissimmee, FL.; and her grandson, William (Beau) Tallman of O’Fallon, IL.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, May 23rd, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Memorial Blessing will take place during the visitation at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
