It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Avanti Chandrakant Shroff, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who left us on April 15th, 2024. Avanti was not just a distinguished structural engineer with over fifty years of experience; he was a pillar of our family and a guiding light in the engineering community.

Avanti moved to America from Mumbai, India to attend Michigan Technological University and later, in 1970, settled in Montclair, New Jersey.  In his free time, he enjoyed playing the sitar, swimming laps, and visiting his beloved “home away from home” on the Caribbean Island of St. Maarten.  His love for the “simple things” in life, be it a beautiful sunset or live music, reflected his deep appreciation for the beauty and richness found in everyday moments.

Avanti was characterized by his willingness to always lend a helping hand or ear to any who needed it.  Whether it was housing and aiding loved ones new to the country or simply giving advice on a hard decision. He exemplified compassion and generosity in all aspects of life. He was a mentor, a teacher, and a friend to all.

As a registered Professional Engineer in multiple states, Avanti poured his heart and soul into his work, bringing expertise and innovation to every project he touched. From the iconic Yankees Stadium to the legendary Dodgers Stadium. He was a pioneer in inspecting and rehabilitating thousands of bridges. Amazingly, his contributions also extended to landmark projects like the Kingdome in Seattle and the Washington subway system, where his meticulous inspection and creative design left an enduring legacy.

Avanti used these extraordinary skills to start his own company Iffland Kavanagh Waterbury.  Later became a senior executive at Jacobs and led the structural department.  He also founded his family business Invisible Innovations.

Avanti is survived by his wife Devyani of 58 years; his sons Neil Shroff (Lauren) of Watchung NJ, and Nick Shroff (Malin) of Boca Raton FL. Also, his grandchildren Raina, Rishi, Nina, Naia, Kasper, Shyam, and Annika.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, from 10:00 am – 12 noon at Rosedale Crematory 408 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ 07051.   Arrangements by The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown 08850.   You may sign the online condolence “guestbook” at www.crabriel.com
