Joyce Helen Doosey (née Lease) passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022, at the age of 76. Daughter of William and Emma Lease, Joyce spent most of her life in Middlesex County, residing in Milltown, East Brunswick, and Monroe before moving to Hillsborough three years ago. Joyce was a nurturing and loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Meredith Barry and husband Courtney of Hillsborough; her son, Michael Doosey and wife Megan of New Orleans; grandchildren Erin and Luke Barry; and her former husband, Howard Doosey, of North Brunswick. Her surviving siblings are Frances Hollenback of North Brunswick, Alice Dana of New York City, Rosemary Toncar and husband Jan of Big Pine Key, Florida, Emily Siegert of North Brunswick; and William Lease and wife Jacqueline of Middletown.
Joyce loved to shop and bargain hunt for hidden gems at garage sales and thrift shops, which allowed for collections of tchotchkes, crafts, and treasures. Her passion was cultivating live plants and collecting home décor ornamented with purple and yellow pansy flowers. She was an avid bingo player and eagerly pulled slot machines in casinos from Atlantic City to Las Vegas. Joyce savored chocolate ice cream and other sweet treats her entire life. Most of all she delighted in spending time with her beloved family and traveling with dear friends. Memorable family vacations were enjoyed across the USA and Caribbean Islands. Joyce initially worked as a waitress at Tumulty's Pub in New Brunswick, then in customer service for both Eastern Airlines and ADP, from which she retired 15 years ago. During retirement she volunteered at animal shelters and St. Peter's Episcopal Church Thrift Shop.
