John A. DeAmicis, of Milltown, passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 70. Born in Manhattan, he was raised in Fords. He lived in Edison before moving to Milltown 40 years ago.
Although John graduated from Rutgers University with a BS in Landscape Architecture, he is well known as a graphic artist. His field was mostly as a cartoonist and limited edition lithographs. He won his first of many awards in 1977 for the Best City Artist, at the Perth Amboy Waterfront Juried Arts and Craft Fair. He was a well known commissioned artist for Rockefeller Foundation, Pepsi, Dr. Seuss and the Far Side to name a few. He and his wife Lynn enjoyed going to art and crafts fairs for the past 50 years, where they met lifelong friends in the art field.
John also wrote books and poetry. Among his books are “Mumbles Grumbles and Assorted Worries”, “Think, Thoughts and Thunks”, “Trees Bees and Boney Knees” and “The Art of Being Happy”.
Outside of being an artist, he enjoyed gardening, especially his hosta’s. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Milltown.
He’s predeceased by his parents John A. and Elinor (Walk) DeAmicis, and his sister Joanne Bulla.
Surviving is his loving wife of 47 years, Lynn (Wodash) DeAmicis; his daughters Elizabeth DeAmicis of Highland Park and Alexandra DeAmicis of East Brunswick; his brother Paul DeAmicis (Laurie) of Waretown, NJ; his sister Theresa Ferri (Richard) of Chester, NJ and his step-mother Grace DeAmicis of Iselin.
Friends and relatives may come to the visitation on Tuesday, October 17th, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, North Main St., Milltown. Cremation will be private.
