Jane M. Verpent, of North Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 74.
Born in Red Bank, she spent her childhood in Middletown, NJ, graduating from Middletown High School and went on to fulfil her childhood dream of becoming a nurse. She lived in South River before moving to North Brunswick 15 years ago.
Jane graduated from All Souls Nursing School in Morristown, in 1965. She later went on to obtain both a Bachelors and Masters degrees from Rutgers University.
She loved being a nurse. During her long career, she was an OR nurse, spent time as a nurse on the SS United States Cruise Ship. Later she provided nursing services at Rutgers Student Health on the both the Newark and New Brunswick Campuses. She was the camp nurse at Fairview Lake YMCA Camp, Sussex Co., Lakeview Day Camp in East Brunswick for over 10 summers as well as serving as a Girl Scout leader for many years.
She retired as Director of Surgical Technology at UMDNJ in Scotch Plains, where she helped many young students begin their medical career.
Jane enjoyed painting, ceramics and traveling and in her younger years participated in Road Rally's through scenic roads of NJ. She also ran a sleep apnea website.
She's predeceased by her parents Arthur and Jane Verpent and her niece Michele Behr and brother in law George Cambies.
Surviving is her brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Debi Verpent of North Brunswick; her sister Patricia Cambeis of Florida; her loving niece Melynda (who lived and cared for Jane in her later years) her nieces Patricia Flack, Debbie Sharp; her nephews George Cambeis and Jonathan Verpent (who was extremely close and spent many hours discussing world events and his latest adventures with her); and many grandnieces and grandnephews, including Kristen and Kenny Behr who she saw often as well as great/great nieces and nephews.
Aunt Jane will be missed but not forgotten by her loving family, friends and her loving dog Kali.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, July 11th, between 3:00 – 4:30 pm, with a service at 4:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main Street-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.
