James H. Cornell III, of East Brunswick, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at home, holding the hand of the love of his life, Assunta (Sue). He would have been 96 on March 17th. Born in Portsmouth NH, he lived in Brooklyn and Floral Park NY most of his life. He and his wife Assunta moved to East Brunswick 20 years ago.
Jim worked as an air freight agent for United Airlines Air Cargo at JFK Airport, for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed fishing and karate, woodworking, playing with his Ipad, and watching you tube videos of one of his granddaughters singing. He especially loved Bruce Lee movies and traveling to Hawaii and Disney World.
He’s predeceased by his brother Robert Cornell and his daughter-in-law Debra Cornell.
Surviving is his loving wife of 73 years, Assunta (Quagliariello) Cornell; his son James H. Cornell IV of Shirley NY, his daughters Kathy Laferrera (Anthony) of Basking Ridge and Doreen Haney (Kevin) of East Brunswick; his sister Marilyn Berglund (Robert) of Syosset NY; his beloved grandchildren AJ Laferrera (Jamie), Alyssa Soriano (Nick), Justin Laferrera (Jess), David Hardy, Scott Hardy, Sean Haney, Ashley Haney and Karen Hardy; and his 7 great grandchildren Juliana, Cecilia, Leo, Dominic, Charlie, Grady and Cody. The family would also like to thank his caregiver Geraldine for all of her loving care and support.
Friends and relatives may call on Sunday (Jim’s birthday) March 17th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. Feel free to wear green to celebrate Jim’s Irish heritage. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, 10:30 am, at St. Bartholomew RC Church, Ryders Lane in East Brunswick. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick. Repast will be at B2 Bistro in North Brunswick at 12:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Daisy Program, 350 Dunham’s Corner Road, East Brunswick, NJ 08816. This program enriches the lives of disabled individuals in the surrounding communities.
