James Edward Burke, Sr. Loving Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. James Edward. Burke, Sr., of Manalapan, New Jersey, formerly of Southampton, New Jersey, passed away on January 5, 2023. He was 90 years old. Born in Brooklyn, New York. The son of the late Edward and Margaret Burke. He lived in Old Bridge, East Brunswick, Southampton, before moving to Manalapan in November 2020.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Jim was a huge Brooklyn Dodger fan until they moved to Los Angeles, and then became a New York Mets fan. He was also a big New York Football Giants fan. Jim enjoyed vacationing in Wildwood with his family. He also was an avid writer, newspaper columnist, poet, stand-up comedian, and realtor. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Friendly Sons of Shillelagh. Many commented that he was the sweetest man and was loved by everyone who met him.
The beloved husband of the late Ethel E. (Elliott) Burke. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Pizzo, children, Kathleen Burke of North Brunswick, Christine Charzewski and her husband Raymond, of Roosevelt; James E. Burke, Jr. and his wife Christine of Edison; and Kerry Ann Ward and her husband Robert Ward of Monroe, and grandchildren, Corey Charzewski and his wife Krysten, Nicole Gorda, Kelsey Charzewski, and Colleen Burke, and great-grandchildren Julianna Gorda and Alexander James Charzewski.
A Mass to celebrate his life will be at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, 186 Gordons Corner Road, Manalapan, NJ 07726 on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00AM. In Jim's honor, memorial contributions may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation https://www.deborahfoundation.org/donate/.
