Isadora (Wachtell) Gelb

May 23, 1931 — January 20, 2024

East Brunswick

Isadora (Wachtell) Gelb, of East Brunswick, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Stein Assisted Living in Somerset.  She was 92.  

 

Born in New York City, she and her late husband Abe, lived in Milltown for 25 years. Abe worked for the Boys Scouts of America where he was transferred to Dallas, Texas.  She moved back to East Brunswick where she lived for almost 30 years, before moving to Stein Assisted Living.

 

Izzy was a Charter Member of the East Brunswick Jewish Center.  She was an active member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 311 in South River and Past President of the Jewish War Veterans Auxiliary of Dallas Texas.  She was a longtime member of Hadassah.

 

She was a longtime volunteer at the Zimmerli Museum at Rutgers University.   She also was a past Democratic Committeewoman in Milltown and volunteered at various East Brunswick Community endeavors.

 

Izzy was known for her enthusiastic personality and her ability to have a conversation with anyone.  She loved dancing, singing and playing the piano.  Her smile lit up any room she entered.

 

She’s predeceased by beloved husband Abe Gelb (d. 1984) and her parents Sol and Mary (Freedmen) Wachtell.

 

Surviving are her loving sons David Gelb (Patti) of Bath, PA and Todd Gelb  (Susan) of Chalfont, PA; her grandchildren Jason Gelb, Matthew (Allison) Gelb and Daniel Gelb; and her great grandchildren Lucy and Theo Gelb.

 

Graveside services will be held on Monday, January 22nd, 11:00 am, at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Arrangements are by The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.  You may sign the online condolence “guestbook” at www.crabiel.com.
