Irving Stein, of Monmouth Junction, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at The Elms in Cranbury. He was 91. Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington and Union Township, before moving to Monmouth Junction several years ago.
Irving worked for Breakstone Foods in Linden for 26 years, retiring in 1991. During WWII, he served in the Navy. His war experiences are recorded in the Library of Congress.
An active member of the South Brunswick Senior Citizens, he was a past member of the Advisory Council, the Theater Group, the Pool Club and the Bridge Club. He also was a member of the South Brunswick Citizen Police and the Community Emergency Response Team.
Irving had played semi-pro softball and was a pitcher for the 3 M Company. He was a girls softball coach for the South Brunswick Athletic Association and an assistant coach for the Hillside High School girl's softball.
He's predeceased by his wife Claire (Frier) Stein (d. 2008) and his brother Louis Stein.
Surviving is his son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Danna Stein of Somerset; his daughter and son-in-law Marcia and Gary Wesalo of Monroe Twp; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, April 19, 2017, 10:00 am, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. Burial will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.
