Herbert A. Tobias, formerly of East Brunswick NJ, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. He was 98.
Born in New Brunswick, he lived in East Brunswick most of his life. He and his wife Eva moved to Virginia five years ago.
Herb was a professional engineer for 52 years, receiving his diplomas from Rutgers University in both mechanical and electrical engineering. He was a Lifetime member of the American Society of Professional Engineers. He was a licensed engineer in both New Jersey and Florida He also was a Fallout Shelter Analyst certified by the US government and has 7 patents of machine inventions.
Before his retirement he worked for DuPont in Parlin, for 25 years, as a Senior Research Engineer. He taught at the Middlesex Technical School and the Middlesex County Vocational Schools. He was a Chief Engineer at the Penn-Jersey Engineering Company in Easton PA.
Herb enjoyed woodworking and drawing with pencils. He was a Green Bay Packer football fan. He traveled to North America, South America, Europe and Africa.
Surviving is his wife Eva (Mogyorosi) Tobias, his sons Dr. Herbert J. Tobias of Austin TX and Dr. William A. Tobias of Charlottesville VA; his daughter and son-in-law Eva R. and Joseph R. Zapata Jr. of East Brunswick, and his grandson Joseph R. Zapata III of California.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 29th, 12 noon at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. Friends and relatives may come for a visitation starting at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Entombment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, North Brunswick.
