Helene C. Zullo

August 6, 1926 — February 3, 2023

Helene C. Zullo, of Monroe Twp., passed away Friday, February 3, 2023 at the age of 96. Born in Boston and raised in Quincy, Massachusetts, she attended the Woodward School for Girls, received her R.N. from the Simmons College of Nursing and trained at Boston Children's Hospital, also served with the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II.

After marriage to Dr. Robert J. Zullo, Helene moved to New Jersey, and worked as a nurse for more than 30 years in private practice and for various companies, also earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey). During this period, while also volunteering with the Middlesex County chapter of the American Cancer Society and the St. Peter's Hospital Women's Auxiliary, she resided in New Brunswick, North Brunswick, Somerset, Metuchen and the Rossmoor community in Monroe.

Helene loved to travel and was especially proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed summers at the Jersey shore, trading stocks, thrift shopping, and was an avid reader, though spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her favorite thing to do.

Helene was predeceased by her parents Blair and Mary (Sullivan) Chapman, her sister Sarah Harris and her brothers, Dr. Richard Chapman and James Chapman.

Surviving are her children, Robert J. Zullo Jr. of Grasonville, MD, Richard Zullo, and his wife, Laura, of Belle Mead, James Zullo and his wife, Tanja, of Piscataway; Elena Powers of Sandy Hook, CT, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be private. Arrangements are by The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.
