Mrs. Helene ( Azzy) Abode, 89, of North Brunswick, NJ, died Thursday at St. Peters University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Lebanon, Mrs. Abode came to the United State in 1947 settling in New Brunswick. She later moved to North Brunswick and has been a resident there for the past 38 years.
To Helene, her family meant everything. She had an "open door policy" for all. Her house was the meeting place. She loved to feed people. There was always food on the stove and no one could leave until they had a hot meal and warm conversation over coffee. She loved having her home filled with people and laughter. Her love was big and will be missed! Mrs. Abode was an active member for many years at Sacred Heart RC Church, New Brunswick. Besides caring for family and friends, she worked for over 30 years keeping house at several of the Rutgers' University housing units. She was widowed at a young age with 7 children requiring her to work a second job cooking at Gambinos Restaurant…feeding people! She will forever be our 'Helena.'
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas in 1967 and her parents, Naaman and Haboubah. She was also predeceased by her grandchild, Anthony Azzi , and four brothers.
