Hannah Lilyan Abse

February 28, 1915 — July 30, 2017

Hannah Lilyan Klompus Adler Bristol Abse died on July 30, 2017 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She was born on February 28, 1915 and grew up Bound Brook, NJ, the daughter of Samuel and Eva Klompus.

She and her family were members of Congregation Knesseth Israel in Bound Brook. She graduated in 1938 from New Jersey College for Women (Douglas College/Rutgers), served on the Board of Education in Bound Brook, and taught Spanish and English at Middlesex High School. Education was of utmost importance to her, and despite the untimely death of her first husband, Abraham (Al) Adler in 1968, she managed to help their three sons all achieve advanced degrees.

In addition to being a superb educator, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother, a great friend to many, an avid follower of current politics, and an excellent mahjong player.

In addition to her first husband, she was predeceased by second husband Joseph Bristol and third husband David Abse.

She is survived by her sons: Martin Adler of South River, NJ, Dr. Robert Adler of Richmond, VA (Anne), and Edward Adler of Long Hill Township, NJ. She is also survived by grandsons Joel Adler and Andrew Adler (Geri) of Richmond, VA, as well as great granddaughter Mollie Brynn Adler of Richmond and many nieces and nephews.

A gravesite ceremony was held at Washington Cemetery in Deans, NJ. Arrangements were by The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. You may sign the "obituary" email "guestbook" at www.crabiel.com
