Castantinos “Gus” Antonakakis, of Edison, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born on December 5, 1956 in New Brunswick, he was 68 years old. Gus lived in Highland Park before moving to Edison 47 years ago.
Gus was a long time employee of Baxter where he worked as a warehouseman. Afterwards he was a security guard with Wackenhut. For the past two decades he was also a real estate property manager before recently retiring. He was a wonderful man who had a gift for fixing things and he was always willing to lend a hand to help a family member, friend or neighbor. He enjoyed spending time with family and always looked forward to big gatherings at the holidays. He was also a faithful parishioner of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway.
He is predeceased by his father Emmanuel Antonakakis and his brother John Anton.
Surviving is his loving mother Irene (Marinakis) Antonakakis of Edison, his brother, Joseph Antonakakis, and his wife, Linda, of Easton PA, his sister, Vicky Gerometta, and her husband, John, of Milltown and his sister, Helen Apostolakis, and her husband, Constantine, of North Brunswick. Also surviving are the following nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews: Christine Gerometta, Diane Sarapin, Joel Sarapin, Stephanie Anton, Michael Anton, Alejandra Anton, Demetri Apostolakis, Yianni Apostolakis, Andrea Apostolakis, Katerina Apostolakis, Joseph Antonakakis, Christina Antonakakis, Kathleen Antonakakis, Marcella Sarapin, Luca Sarapin, and Veronica Greenberg.
A Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, December 30th, from 10:00 – 11:00 am at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road in Piscataway. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 at St. George. Burial will follow at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
