Gerasimoula “Memi” Poulis, of Cranford, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Village Point Healthcare in Monroe. She was 84. Born in Kefalonia Greece, she came to the United States in 1968 and resided in Washington Heights for 24 years.
Memi was a parishioner of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Washington Heights. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, and crocheting. She also loved doing crossword puzzles, word searches, reading and cheering on her teams especially if her grandsons were on the field! She adored animals and her grand doggy Bailey was very special to her.
She’s predeceased by her husband Spiro Poulis (d. 1983).
Surviving are her daughters Dimitra Scariano (Anthony) of North Brunswick, and Maria Lysgaris (Ioannis) of Cranford; her brother Dennis Markatos of Florida and her sister Evangelia Papadopoulos of Kastoria Greece; and 2 grandchildren Joseph and Christopher Scariano. She was a loving aunt to nieces and nephews near and far was was “Mama Memi” to many!
She will be missed but never forgotten.
A Viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, October 16th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, 9:45 am, at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 124 Wadsworth Avenue, Washinton Heights, NY. Valet parking will be available. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings on Hudson, NY. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org .
