George R. Tighelaar, 78, of Milltown, New Jersey died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 14. He was born in New Brunswick, NJ in 1945 to George and Anna Tighelaar. George attended New Brunswick High School before joining the United States Marine Corps. 'Semper Fi.' Following his military service, he joined the New Jersey State Police.
George met the love of his life, Beverly Rose while in high school, eventually marrying and recently celebrating 57 years of marriage. They were blessed with two loving children and five grandchildren. Family meant the world to them.
George loved his country and his patriotism was never more evident than on the Fourth of July. Upon retirement from the New Jersey State Police, George was awarded a Proclamation from the Governor in recognition of his distinguished career. George was a proud member of the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, Former Troopers Association of NJ, Knights of Columbus, and the Corvette Express Club.
Everyone who knew George knew how much he loved skiing, daily gym workouts, family vacations, friendships, and his dogs. Anyone who met George was immediately struck by his physical stature, but his witty personality was just as memorable.
George is survived by his wife Beverly, his daughter, Stacey Bowie (Bill), his son, Eric (Stacey) and his grandchildren, Kyra, Griffin, Atticus, Trent and Tanner. His family will forever be heartbroken by his passing.
On Friday November 17th, 2023 there will be a viewing from 4:00-8:00pm at The Crabiel Home For Funerals, located 170 N. Main Street Milltown, NJ 08850. Then on Saturday November 18th, a funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lords RC Church in Milltown at 10:00am. Followed by the interment at Holy Cross Burial Park in East Brunswick.
