Frank M. Amato, of Milltown, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospice in Hamilton. He was 81.
Born in Jersey City, he lived in Middlesex Borough, before moving to Milltown in 1981.
Frank was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 in Milltown.
A carpenter by trade, Frank retired as CVED (Cooperative Vocational Education Coordinator) from Middlesex County Vocational Technical Schools, and was a Night School Principal. He received his bachelor and master's in education from Rutgers University.
Frank was an Eucharistic Minister at St. Bartholomew's RC Church in East Brunswick. He also was a Chaplin at Robert Wood Johnson and Middlesex County Corrections. He was a 3rd degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 11873.
He was a Milltown Board of Education Trustee and was on the Milltown Zoning Board of Adjustment. . His favorite pastime was carpentry and woodworking
He's predeceased by his brother Matthew Amato and sister Anna Sullivan.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Ethel Amato of Lawrenceville; his daughter and son-in-law, Jo-Ann and David Ritz of Hamilton; his brother Ralph Amato of Paramus; his sisters Frances "Dolly" Simplot of Washington and Phyllis Cali of Montville, NJ; and 6 grandchildren – Sara Ann and Briana Fitzpatrick, Madison Amato, Michael Ritz and Jared and Robert Bridges.
A Mass will be held on Friday, June 15th, 11:00 am, at St. Bartholomew RC Church, Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. Friends and relatives may come to the visitation on Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown.
