Emma S. Enoch

Emma passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 15, 2025, at the Reformed Church Home at the age of 101. She was born on June 12, 1924, in Edison, NJ, to the late William Independence Enoch and Agnes (Hughes) Enoch. Emma was a member of the Piscatawaytown Baptist Chapel Girl Scouts - Troop Six. Her family moved to New Brunswick when she was a teenager, where she graduated from New Brunswick High School. In high school, Emma received the Gold Wing Foot pin for participating in athletics. 

As a member of the First Baptist Church in New Brunswick, she taught Sunday School and was a youth leader, and Girl Scout leader of Troop 38. She also assisted two troops in Milltown, NJ, Troop 1918 and 80005. Following high school, Emma worked in the purchasing department of St. Peter’s Hospital, New Brunswick. In 1947, Emma went to Chicago to study at the Baptist missionary training school, where she earned her B.A. in Social Work and Christian Education. Her first assignment was the Kodiak Baptist Mission in Ouzinkie, Alaska. Emma worked at the Christian centers in West Virginia, Chicago, Boston, and Newark, NJ. Emma was also employed locally by the Neighborhood House and the New Brunswick Public Library. During the Vietnam War, Emma worked with the American Red Cross providing service to military families, veterans, and disaster relief programs. Emma volunteered with the New Jersey American Baptist Women’s Ministry, which included sending mission boxes to missionaries. 

Emma was president of the New Brunswick Church Women United for many years. Emma received the BMTS Pilgrim Journey Award. A few years ago, Emma was presented with the New Brunswick Humanitarian Award for her work at the Neighborhood House and in the community. Emma loved her family and enjoyed all family events and traveling to visit family and friends from east to west. She also enjoyed all the family dogs that would greet her when she came to visit. Her hobbies were quilting and bike riding. Emma loved the outdoors and you could often catch her riding around town on her way to work or church. In 2002, Emma moved to North Brunswick with her sister, Evelyn. They enjoyed their flower garden and chatting with their neighbors.

Emma was preceded in death by her siblings Dorothea Hageman, Russell W. Enoch, John W. Enoch, Evelyn L. Keseleski, and William G. Enoch; nieces Ruthlynn Nixon, and Karen Enoch; and nephew Mark Keseleski.

Emma is survived by her nieces, Robin and her husband Joseph Pagano, Joyce and her husband Joseph Fircha, Debra Busher, Alice and her husband Leonard Ray, Leslie and her husband Larry Wilde, Nancy and her husband Maxwell Swancutt; her nephews, William Enoch Jr. and his wife Kathy, and John Enoch, and their families. She is also survived by her many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 18th, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of New Brunswick, located on the corner of Livingston Ave at 226 Hale Street, New Brunswick, NJ. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12 noon in the church. The burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in North Brunswick.
