Eloise Porter Murray, of East Brunswick, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021 at St. Peter's Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 78.
Born in New Brunswick, she lived in North Brunswick before moving to East Brunswick 51 years ago. She received her BS from Douglas College and her Master's from Rutgers University.
Eloise was a clinical speech pathologist for East Brunswick Board of Education, for 32 years, retiring in 2006. While working at Warnsdorfer Elementary School, she was selected for the Governor's Award. She also was an adjunct professor for Kean College.
She was an active member for over 50 years, of the New Jersey Speech Language Hearing Association, where she served as Treasurer. She received from the NJSHA the Volunteer of the Year award, the Honors of the Association award and activated the School Affairs Committee. She was on the founding board of the NJ Audiology & Speech Language Pathology Political Action Committee.
Ellie's passion for children, especially those with a variety of communication and learning disabilities, was reflected in a half century of her chosen field of Speech-Language Pathology. She was respected by all of her colleagues for her skills and her commitment to the field. After retiring, she continued sharing her expertise by tutoring students in speech.
She enjoyed traveling to Europe with her husband Tom and spending the winters in Key Colony, Florida. She was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Giants and Rutgers. She also was a huge fan of the theater and shows, orchestra and such.
Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Thomas F. Murray; her sons and daughter-in-laws, Kevin P. and Jeanmarie Murray of Asbury, NJ, and Brian T. and Mary Murray of East Brunswick; and her beloved grandchildren Devlin Michele and her husband Joe, and Thomas Brian.
A Memorial Service and Gathering will be held Thursday, August 5th, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Blessing will be held during the gathering at 2:00 pm.
