Edward Cohen

March 12, 1928 — April 16, 2017

Edward A. Cohen, of Monroe Twp., passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 89. Born in the Bronx, he grew up in Brooklyn, and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He lived in East Brunswick for 35 years before moving to Monroe Twp. 20 years ago.

Ed was very active in in the East Brunswick and Monroe Twp. communities. He served as the Economic Development coordinator for East Brunswick Twp. He served on both the Planning Board and Zoning Board for East Brunswick.

In Monroe he worked for the Planning Department and was the former President of the Monroe Democratic Club. He also served on the Middlesex County Utility Authority for several years and was on the Board of Trustees at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for 18 years.

Ed is predeceased by his brother Stanley Cohen. Surviving is his devoted wife of 61 years, Sylvia (Jarmark) Cohen; his daughter and son-in-law Marcia and Roy Meyers of East Brunswick; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Beth Cohen of Manalapan; and his grandson Justin and Spencer.

Services will be Wednesday, April 19th, 10:00 am, at East Brunswick Jewish Center, Ryders Lane, East Brunswick. Interment will follow at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY.
