Dr. Aryma Nand Srivastava

Dr. Aryma Nand Srivastava, of Holmdel, New Jersey passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus in Lakewood. He was 86.

Born in Gorakhpur, India, he came to the United States in 1992. Having traveled much of the world, he had been residing in Holmdel, New Jersey.

Dr. Srivastava was an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who retired in 1990. He was a graduate of King George's Medical College, Lucknow, India, where he also pursued training and education to specialize in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He also received a postgraduate diploma for furthering his expertise as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon from the Institute of Dental Surgery, University of London, London, United Kingdom.

Dr. Srivastava was a visionary who pursued to achieve his dream of establishing the first Dental College in New Delhi (the capital of India) and has been deemed the Founder of the Dental College / Dental Wing, now called Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences in New Delhi, India. He served in various academic leadership positions in Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) since 1975 prior to shepherding and leading the Dental College / Wing, MAMC since 1983 as Head of the institution and Professor, wherein he oversaw the admission of the first batch of dental students and the subsequent graduation of many students over the years. He was a mentor to many students, faculty and staff he built from the ground up, preparing them to carry the torch after his retirement.

Dr. A. N. Srivastava was a pioneer in oral cancer research with some of his early groundbreaking research that remain fundamental and are referenced in textbooks that dental and medical students continue to learn from. He also served in academic and administrative leadership positions in institutions during his early years, prior to joining MAMC.

Dr. Srivastava served in leadership positions in several professional and community organizations, finding ways to extend his service to the people. He also served as advisor to many organizations, helping them in their development and progress.

He always enjoyed indulging in electronics and computers and was an extremely technologically knowledgeable and savvy person way ahead of his time. He enjoyed conversing with his grandchildren who benefited immensely from his vast knowledge and experience about science, religion, world affairs and history. More than his rich and accomplished life, he was a quintessential family man for whom his family was his greatest pride and joy. He was a kind and great human being with a pure heart.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 58 years, Janak (Baweja) Srivastava; his sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. Rajesh and Nandini Mohan of Holmdel, NJ, Brajesh and Anjana Mohan of Port Washington, NY, and Rakesh and Monika Mohan of NYC; and his grandchildren Yuvraj, Natasha, Vishvajit, Diya Jolie, and Devesh Mohan; his sister Mrs. Savita Srivastava, nephews Rajiv Srivastava and Alok Srivastava and niece Renu Srivastava and their families.
