Dorsey Lee Trent, formerly of South Brunswick, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at his home in Monroe Twp. He was 78.
Born in Farmers, KY, he moved to the Dayton section of South Brunswick 75 years ago. He moved to the Rossmoor section of Monroe Twp. 2 years ago.
Dorsey was a police officer with the South Brunswick Police Department, for 33 years, retiring as Sergeant in 1994. He was a member of the NJ Auto Theft Bureau, past President of the South Brunswick PBA and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was on the Police and the National Guard Pistol Teams.
He served in the United States Army from 1961-64. He was past Middlesex County Commander of the American Legion, member of American Legion Post 25 in Milltown and a former member of the American Legion Post 401 in Monmouth Junction,
Dorsey was also a parishioner of the Presbyterian Church in Jamesburg, and a member of the Milltown Lions Club. He enjoyed hunting and taught Hunters Education for the State of NJ for several years.
He's predeceased by his parents Lewis and Anna Trent, and his brothers Edgar and Ernest Trent.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Joan (Hoelzer) Trent; his son Dorsey Lee Trent, Jr. of Monmouth Junction, his daughter and son-in-law Wendyln and Robert Barbely of SC; his grandchildren Michael Hammond and his wife Lauren, Nicholas Trent, Patricia Barbely, and Vincent and Arianna Trent; his great grandson Cillian Hammond; his sister Edith Simmons of Dayton and his brother Raymond Trent of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 9th, 10:00 am, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. Burial will follow. Friends and relatives may call on Tuesday, 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
