Gloria Dolores Combates, of Piscataway, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27th 2025, at The Bristal at Somerset. She was 94 years old. Born and raised in Trenton, she’s lived in Piscataway most of her life. She would have been 95 years old on September 16th.
She was married in 1955 to her beloved Angelo who was a baker and owner of Dee Dee’s Pastry Shop in Plainfield. After Angelo’s untimely death at the age of 44 in December 1972, Dolores was left to raise her two young sons, with the help of her extended family, especially her Uncle Louis Anzivino.
Dolores was a graduate of Trenton High School and earned a certification in stenography from Rider College. She was a receptionist for the Middlesex County Board of Social Services in New Brunswick before retiring in 1995. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and keeping abreast with local and national politics. She loved spending time with family and friends and hosted an annual Christmas gathering in her home. In her younger years, she was active in the Piscataway Democratic Organization.
In addition to her late husband Angelo Combates, she is predeceased by her parents Anthony and Clara (nee Anzivino) Cifaldi, her brothers Ernest, Joseph, John and Eugene Cifaldi, and her sister Eleanor.
Surviving are her devoted sons Nicholas J. Combates PhD, and his wife Barbara (nee Waldy), of Lebanon Township and Peter Combates, Piscataway District 2 Fire Commissioner, of Piscataway, her loving grandchildren Jessica, Chris (Clarissa), Alexandra and Cole Combates, and her great grandson Michael. her extended family Michelle Toborowsky of Waterbury Center VT , and her son Samual Skalaney, and her long-time caregiver and friend Larisa Denisiok. She will be missed by her best furry friend Gus.
A Visitation will be held for relatives and friends on Sunday, August 31st, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N Main St.-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. A Prayer Service will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway, on Tuesday, September 2nd, at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Lake Nelson Memorial Park in Piscataway. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
