De'Chon Rasheid Goolsby, of Newark, NJ was called home on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark. He was 19 years old.
Born in Newark, he lived there most of his life. De'Chon was a graduate of America History High School; during his time there, he was a constant honor roll student. In addition, he was a member of the marching band at Weequahic High School playing the bass drum, and tuba. After high school De'Chon was accepted to several colleges out of state but, decided to stay close to home and enrolled in Essex County College. He was a freshman majoring in Political Science. In his short time, De'Chon made a strong positive impact; he was an instructor for the National Youth Leadership Training Program, a member of the Order of the Arrow Honor Society, an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 272 in Newark, and a member of Omega Phi Epsilon Fraternity. De'Chon was a gentle giant, who had an incredible spirit and a warm smile.
De'Chon is survived by his parents Crystal Graves and Keith Goolsby of Newark; his sister Shenelle Goolsby and his brother Daquan Graves; three nephews and one niece; his grandmothers Rose Johnson of Newark and Joann Goolsby of Newark; a host of family including uncles, aunts and cousins, two god mothers, a church family at Higher Praise Family Worship Center in Newark and many friends that became family and all adored him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Hasit Graves.
