Carolyn D. Garcia

Our beloved mother Carolyn Garcia passed away sadly at the age of 86, surrounded by her two daughters Deby and Jennifer who were by her side until the end. They meant everything to her.

She was born and raised in Plainfield and lived in Milltown for 30 years, before moving to Princeton in 1989. She was a talented interior decorator. She loved to shop, especially for other people. She had amazing taste and was a natural at it. She had been written up and had many happy customers.  She loved her books. For a quarter of a century, she owned “The Reading Room” bookstores, at the Rt. 18 Flea Market and Englishtown. 

She was the mother of three children: her son, Richard, who sadly passed away in 1992, and her daughters, Deby and Jennifer. She was also a loving wife to her late husband, who passed away in 2010 after 50 years of marriage. He absolutely adored and worshipped her, and that love remained strong until the very end of his life.

For the last several years, Carolyn lived with dementia. Although the disease took many things from her, there was one thing it could never take away the love she had for her children. She never forgot her girls, Deby and Jennifer, not even once. That was a beautiful reminder of just how deep a mother’s love can be.

Deby and Jennifer had the privilege of caring for their mom at home. They were able to keep her surrounded by the people, memories, and love she knew until the very end. Being able to care for her at home was a gift they will always treasure.

She was also a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren: Amanda of Sayreville, New Jersey; Sarah of Austin, Texas; Olivia of Wisconsin; and Hunter of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren.

More than anything, she was Deby and Jennifer’s mom. She was the best mom she knew how to be, and she loved her family deeply. They loved her dearly in return. Our lives will never be quite the same without her, but we will carry her love, her memory, and everything she gave us in our hearts forever. She was loved throughout her life, cared for with love until her final days, and she will never be forgotten.
