Anita Johnson was born on January 28, 1958 to James Fuqua & Audrey Johnson-Boyd, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She transitioned from her labor to reward on August 21, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ. She was 66 years old.
Anita or “Nee-Nee” as she was affectionately known, attended and graduated from the New Brunswick Public School system. She also attended Star Technical Institute where she earned certifications in Medical Billing. She was formerly employed by the Superior Court of Middlesex County for over 20 years. She had recently retired at the time of her death.
Nee-Nee was a loving mother, sister and aunt. She wore her heart on her sleeve and never held back how she felt. She was the life of the party; the first one on the dance floor and the first one to leave. Her infamous line was “It’s 7:00 I’m going home to get in my bed, I gotta be up at 6:00.” Nee-Nee loved to cook, and was known for her potato salad and sweet potato pie. She was a natural born creative who liked to sew and write poetry. She had an immaculate sense of style and could wear the heck out of a high heel. She did not play about her house being clean, it was always spotless. She also enjoyed walking, reading and watching the Food Network.
Nee-Nee was predeceased by her son Robert Johnson; father, James Fuqua, stepfather Cleophus Boyd; five brothers, Claude Johnson, Tyrone Johnson, Wayne Otis Johnson, Cornell Fuqua and Darnell Fuqua; four sisters, Claudia Johnson, Wanda Johnson, Cindy Fuqua and Wanda Fuqua; two nephews, Kenyatta Demings and Rakeem Johnson and one niece, Michaela Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Shacole Johnson-Bennett (Gregory) and Raessa Belnavis; mother, Audrey Johnson-Boyd; siblings, Cleophus Boyd, Jr. (Jan), Velma Boyd-Demings (Robert); Darryl Fields (Janice), Portia Williams, Sandra Johnson-Davis (Jerome), Alphonso Fuqua, Sharon Fuqua, Sandra Fuqua, Tyrone Fuqua, Erycka Johnson-Saunders (Michael), and her companion Kevin Belnavis; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great–great nieces, great-great nephews, cousins, and friends. The void of Nee-Nee’s passing will be forever felt. Our family will never be the same.
