Alwyn Cynthia Evans Roberts, of Toms River and formerly North Brunswick, passed away Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, in Ocean Grove, NJ. She was 84 years young.
Born in Framingham, Massachusetts, she was a graduate of Brookline HS. She married the love of her life Donald Roberts and raised her family in North Brunswick, before moving to Toms River 30 years ago to be closer to her three granddaughters.
Alwyn did many interesting things throughout her happy life. She had a successful career as a realtor with Strapp Realty in East Brunswick. She also worked as a bus driver for children with special needs and was loved by them and their families for her funny and caring ways.
Known for being ahead of her time she owned and operated Ali's Food Truck during the late 70's and early 80's which was parked on Livingston Avenue in North Brunswick. Getting to know her customers on a personal level she enjoyed feeding them her homemade recipes. It wasn't unusual to see a long line down the block any day of the week for lunch.
Ali was an active member of the Kendall Park Presbyterian Church where she was a former Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Many of her lifelong friends were made here.
Alwyn was known for her many interests and talents. She was an organic gardener, winning for her special beefsteak tomatoes at the County Fair, a yoga enthusiast, a professional clown known as Miss Ruffles, Girl Scout Leader, watercolor artist, avid skier, globetrotter, accomplished seamstress where it wasn't unusual for her family to observe her upholstering a neighbors couch in the middle of their living room.
She was an active member of the Artist Guild in Island Heights and enjoyed taking her granddaughters on Elder Hostels.
Of all the things she was known for, raising her children and being with her granddaughters was what brought her the most joy in life. Her family loved her for her quirky and fun sense of humor and caring ways. Her granddaughters will be forever grateful for the unending support and encouragement she gave to all of their endeavors throughout childhood and into their adult life.
She is predeceased by her husband Donald Roberts (d. 1992), and her sister Audrey Phinney, her parents Maud and Harold Evans from Sullyhul England.
