Alta S. Astor

Alta S Astor, nee Meseroll, formerly of Milltown, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Imperial Nursing Home in Neptune.  She was 96.  

Born April 22, 1927 on the Meseroll homestead in North Brunswick, to Marguerite Clark Meseroll and John B. Meseroll, she graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1945. She moved to Milltown in 1930 and lived there most of her life.

She worked as a bookkeeper for thirty years and three generations at the Diamond Supply   

Company, in New Brunswick, retiring in 1989. She’s been a parishioner of the United Methodist Church in Milltown since 1935.

Alta was very active, volunteering as a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout Leader.  She and her late husband Don Co-chaired the Milltown 75th Anniversary Gala.  She also was a Milltown Democratic Committeewoman, member of the Milltown Historical Society, and past president of Milltown Senior Citizens.   

She loved quilting and enjoyed sharing her masterful creation of beautiful quilts and knitwear for family and friends.  She was the founder of the Tuesday Night Quilters in Milltown. She organized the senior citizen group that enjoyed knitting and crocheting blankets and hats to donate to hospitals and nursing homes.  She was a member of Brunswick Star Quilters and Garden State Quilters.

Alta lovingly cared for her elderly mother Marguerite and her many grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she’s predeceased by her loving husband, Donald Gene Astor of 42 years; and her brothers John, Norman, and Alan Meseroll.

She was the mother of Richard Astor and his wife Linda of Meadville, Pa., grandmother to Kyle Astor and wife Kelly Astor, Ryan Astor and wife Shelley; mother of Juliet Astor and her husband Prosper Bellizia of Ocean Grove, NJ, grandmother to Lindsay Stanislau and husband Bret, Jill Julian and husband David, Joseph Stanislau,  step-grandmother of Alessandra Bellizia and husband Alexander, Miranda Bellizia and husband Marvin;  mother of Timothy Astor and wife Rachelle Astor, of Milltown, NJ, Grandmother to Tyler Astor and his wife Maria, Bryanna Astor and Brooke Astor; great grandmother to Kyler, Kaelynn, Konner, Kayden, Braden, Bella, Jordy, Mac, Lou, Mia, Nico, and step-great-grandmother to Emilia

Graveside service for Alta will be private.
